Course Descriptions
The Master's in Global Studies creates uniquely leveraged leaders across a variety of industries who will apply their intercultural and language proficiency to international and regional challenges, based on United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This program develops all three dimensions of the Tomorrow Leader: Global Understanding, Global Benevolence, and Global Leadership.
Demonstrate mastery of interdisciplinary subject matter on a global, intercultural scale.
Demonstrate intermediate proficiency in all modes of communication in at least four languages in addition to English.
Express an intercultural perspective on and solutions for real-world problems and Sustainable Development Goals.
Articulate a Grand Life Plan, connecting individual goals and ambitions to the global community of humanity.

GLS 5013 Global Studies Orientation
Course Description: This course is an introduction to graduate studies in an advanced international, intercultural, and multilingual context of serial study abroad. 3 credits.
GLS 5116 Experiential European Studies
Course Description: This course provides an immersive and intercultural analysis of European history, politics, economics, sociology, and religion with special emphasis on France and optional excursions to other major nations of the European Union (EU). Includes French language training up to an intermediate level. 6 credits.
GLS 5126 Experiential South American Studies
Course Description: This course provides an immersive and intercultural analysis of South American history, politics, economics, sociology, and religion with special emphasis on the Southern Cone and optional excursions to other major nations of South America. Includes Spanish language training up to an intermediate level. 6 credits.
GLS 5136 Experiential Asian & Australasian Studies
Course Description: This course provides an immersive and intercultural analysis of Asian and Australasian history, politics, economics, sociology, and religion with special emphasis on China and optional excursions to other major Asian nations. Includes Mandarin language training up to an intermediate level. 6 credits.
GLS 5146 Experiential West Asian & North African Studies
Course Description: This course provides an immersive and intercultural analysis of West Asian and North African history, politics, economics, sociology, and religion with special emphasis on Egypt and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and optional excursions to other major West Asian and North African nations. Includes Masri Arabic language training up to an intermediate level. 6 credits.
GLS 5156 Experiential African Studies
Course Description: This course provides an immersive and intercultural analysis of African history, politics, economics, sociology, and religion with short-term residencies in Arabic-, English-, French-, and Spanish-speaking countries and optional excursions to other major African nations. Includes language review and synthesis of Arabic, French, and Spanish. 6 credits.
GLS 5166 Experiential North American & Caribbean Studies
Course Description: This course provides an immersive and intercultural analysis of North American and Caribbean history, politics, economics, sociology, and religion. Guided synthesis of all GLS studies in the anglophone context of North America and the Caribbean. 6 credits.
GLS 5213 Global Leadership Seminar
Course Description: This seminar teaches the qualities of The Tomorrow Leader Archetype™️ used to develop future leaders who help all people everywhere and accomplish substantial good in their lifetime. 3 credits.
GLS 5223 Global Benevolence Seminar
Course Description: This seminar provides on-the-ground exposure to charitable organizations internationally and leads to the completion of a master’s thesis or an applied business case focused on select UN Strategic Development Goals, developed according to student research and career objectives and in consultation with assigned faculty members. 3 credits.

Steve Whigham is an international business consultant, speaker, educator, and strategist with over thirty years of experience across six continents. He has collaborated with global brands such as Michelin, BMW, and Johnson & Johnson's Ethicon Division. In 2022, he initiated a graduate-level study abroad program that immerses students in diverse cultures while fostering their development as future global leaders. As the President and Founder of The Whigham School, Steve aims to inspire and equip the next generation to do substantial good in the world.
